HIN MUANG & HIN DAENG

Journey time: 1h 10min, distance 65km (speed boat)

Suitable: Advanced divers (AOWD required)

Maximum depth: 30m allowed for recreational divers

Famous among the divers around the world and ranked as one of the most beautiful dive sites on Earth, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang offer spectacular scenery with underwater canyons, walls and steep drop-offs full of colourful soft corals and extremely unique macro life.

The two reefs are located only 100 meters away from each other in the middle of the Andaman Sea. Due to the location, strong currents often occur so advanced level, controlled buoyancy skills and experience in diving are highly recommended for the divers to visit these sites.

Home for many large pelagic, Hin Muang and Hin Daeng are especially known for whale sharks and curious manta rays often seen swimming close to the peaks of the reefs as the reefs also work as cleaning stations for manta rays. Additionally, looking into the blue gives a chance to spot huge schools of hunting barracudas and trevallies.

Hin Muang is completely underwater, its top lying about 10 meters below the surface. The reef is covered by purple soft corals, that also gives the dive site its unique name (Hin Muang = Purple Rock).

This giant pinnacle is one of the deepest wall dive in Thailand, dropping all the way to 60 meters. While the shallower parts of Hin Muang are full of anemones, colourful sea fans of different shapes and sizes decorate its steep walls.

Hin Daeng is three times bigger in size than its sister reef and can be spotted from the surface. The top of the pinnacle rises above the water as a small rock, while the deepest point of the reef reaches 50 meters.

The name of the reef translates as ‘Red Rock’, because of the large amount of red soft corals covering its walls and slopes. This rocky reef is extremely rich in macro life and a home for many small creatures such as different nudibranchs and ghost pipefish.
